Welcome Letter

Dear Parents

Thank you for enquiring about Little Wonders Day Nursery. We are situated in the beautiful market town of Wirksworth in the Derbyshire Dales, providing  nursery daycare for children from three months up to four years of age.

We are a small and local nursery and we strive to provide a homely, friendly and happy environment for every child that is in our care. We are proud to be able to offer the highest possible standard of care and nursery education, excellent equipment and resources and a refurbished building that has been designed to ensure the safety of the children in our nursery. We pride ourselves in  nurturing and encouraging each individual child to develop their skills and achieve their full potential.  We work very closely with the local schools and healthcare professionals to ensure we provide children in our care with the best support possible. We are open Monday to Friday 7.45am to 6pm, only closing for Bank holidays and Christmas week.

Parent and carer partnership is important to us and we value you as key partners to our service. We feedback information to you about your child’s day at nursery to ensure you are kept well informed throughout their whole time with us. We run two parents' evenings per year to give you the opportunity to spend time with our staff and meet other parents and carers.  Parent evenings also gives you time to  discuss your child’s development and progress with their key worker, in a relaxed environment .

Little Wonders Day Nursery provides a online software system called Tapestry which is very user friendly for parents/carers to view your child’s learning in the comfort of your own home (please don’t forget to add your email address on your child’s registration form).

Each child is assigned a “key person”, a member of staff who will help them settle into nursery and then follow their progression through the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. They will identify “next steps” for your child to work towards and share this information with you through our secure online learning journal; this will include observations, assessments and photographs of your child – you can access this and add to it at any time.

Your child’s key person will also write assessments reports each term on your child’s online tapestry learning journey. Paper copies can be requested.

You will receive a monthly newsletter keeping you updated with any Nursery news including events, new staff, new ideas and improvements and we also have comment slips in our entrance hall along with our policy folder.  Please familiarsie yourself with all our Nursery policies, we can provide copies of any of the policies on request.

Our Nursery Manager, holding the N.N.E.B and Management in Early Years. Our staff are all qualified Nursery Nurses each holding appropriate level three childcare qualifications.  All staff are qualified paediatric first aiders and each hold a qualification in Food Hygiene. Every staff member takes responsibility for a specific area of the Nursery, providing stability for your child and ensuring they always know who will be caring for them. We recognise that our staff are our greatest assets and we continually encourage staff to undertake further training to ensure that we are constantly developing our quality of care and education.  We recognise how difficult the decision is to leave the care of your child to others and we pride ourselves on having a team of experienced and enthusiastic staff that will help to alleviate any initial concerns.

From as young as 9 months your child may be entitled to 15 hours of free early years education per week until they start school. In addition to this we also offer free funded hours for eligible two year olds and the 30 hour extended entitlement for three year olds (please see enclosed fee document for more information how you can use your 30 hours extended entitleement). Funded hours can be used on a term time only basis or you can stretch your funded hours over the whole 51 weeks of the year.

Please give us a ring if you would like to arrange a visit to the nursery to give you the opportunity to find out more information about us and to talk to our friendly staff.

We offer a holiday club for school children. Please contact us on the above number for futher information.
